Nalco reduces aluminium ingots prices by over 2% after three consecutive hikes
After increasing aluminium ingots prices for past three consecutive times, National Aluminium Company Limited (Nalco) reportedly cut the ingots prices by over 2 per cent, with effect from Wednesday, November 20, as trade sources told Cogencis. With this, the prices of the company ingots came down to the range of INR 147,950 per tonne to INR 151,450 per tonne. Primary aluminium inventories in China declined by larger margin this week to 799,000 tonnes
Shanghai Metals Market, on Thursday, November 21, found the social inventories of primary aluminium continued to decline by a larger margin, as stocks in Nanhai and Gongyi fell sharply. Data showed the stocks across eight major consumption areas, including SHFE warrants, decreased by 35,000 tonnes week-on-week and 24,000 tonnes from Monday, November 18 to stand at 799,000 tonnes. Qatar’s aluminium crude, metals and alloys exports to the US recorded a drop of 30% in August
After a considerable rise of 29 per cent in July 2019, Qatar’s aluminium crude, metals and alloys exports to the United States recorded a drop in August by about 30 per cent to stand at 10,700 tonnes, found United States Geological Survey. In July, the export volume was amounted to 15,300 tonnes after increasing from 11,900 tonnes in June. In May, according to the USGS data, Qatar had exported 15,600 tonnes of crude, metals and alloys to the US, which indicates that the export volume in June had recorded a drop of 24 per cent. According to an update from China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association (CMRA) Recycling Metal Branch, China will remove import tariffs on unwrought aluminium alloy from Pakistan from December 1, once the second phase of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two countries comes into effect. Uncertainty in global aluminium markets weigh down aluminium foil roll demand in Europe by 2.2% YTD
Ongoing uncertainty in global aluminium markets and the US-China trade dispute were found to take a toll on European aluminium foil rollers in the September quarter. After month-on-month declines in the United States aluminium scrap exports to India in June and July, August this year saw a rise of 15 per cent, found the United States Geological Survey. Vedanta’s revenue in Q2 FY20 recorded a drop of 3% over the year as net sales plunged
Vedanta Limited in the late last week reported that its revenue in the second quarter of FY20 dropped by 3 per cent year-on-year to INR 21,739 crore. Net sales and EBITDA also dropped by 3 per cent and 15 per cent year-on-year from INR 22,432 crore to INR 21,739 crore and from INR 5,281 crore to INR 4,497 crore, respectively. Vedanta cuts aluminium production cost to $1852 per tonne during September quarter
As the aluminium prices on the London Metal Exchange (LME) entered the bearish zone, Vedanta Limited reduced the cost of its production (CoP) during the September quarter of FY20 to $1,852 per tonne. The LME prices (as on November 14) hovered at $1,756 per tonne for the cash buyer. At this price point, 10 per cent of the global aluminium smelters are incurring cash losses. Vedanta’s aluminium CoP during the first half (April-September) of FY20 was even lower at $1,810 per tonne, down 9 per cent from $1,990 in the corresponding period last year. John Nowell’s year-long initiation of making helipads for local hospitals from used aluminium cans has come a long way over the year and a charity is now reportedly appealing for donations of the empty cans. China’s unwrought aluminium alloy imports in September recorded highest so far
Shanghai Metals Market found China’s imports of unwrought aluminium alloy marked a record high in September totalling at 18,706 tonnes, as demand from Chinese secondary aluminium producers and die-casting plants increased with Beijing throttling down the inflows of aluminium scrap. The imports were up by 16.9 per cent from a month ago and 140 per cent from a year, the highest since SMM records began in January 2018.
