Aluminium stranded wire imports by Saudi Arabia doubled in 2017

Saudi Arabia imported US$126.8 billion worth of goods from around the world in 2017. The country’s imports of aluminium stranded wire increased in 2017. Saudi Arabia imported about 48108 tonnes of this product in 2017, an increase of 108 per cent YoY. Saudi Arabia’s imports of aluminium stranded wire which are used in overhead power transmission and distribution applications in modern residential and industrial constructions is expected to decline in 2018.

Bahrain exports the largest part of aluminium stranded wire to Saudi Arabia. Bahrain exported about 42201 tonnes of aluminium stranded wire in 2017, up from 17457 tonnes in 2016. Other top exporters who have been selling aluminium stranded wire to the country include India (4400 tonnes), and China (940 tonnes) (2017 data).

According to recent estimates, in 2016, Saudi Arabia’s aluminium stranded wire imports reached an estimated total of 23164 tonnes. The country imported 48108 tonnes of aluminium stranded wire in 2017. Aluminium stranded wire import is estimated to reach 44074 tonnes in 2018.

The total aluminium stranded wire imports were valued at US$51 million in 2016, which decreased to reach US$1.2 million in 2017. The value of imports of this product is expected to increase in 2018. Aluminium stranded wire imports are to be valued at US$9.5 million (estimated).
