Almahdi Aluminium Co., a well-known manufacturer of primary aluminium sows, was established in 1990 with a long-term plan to create a major aluminium production hub in Iran. Located in the Persian Gulf Special Economic Zone near Bandar Abbas, they developed their operations in phases using domestic expertise and selective international collaboration. By commissioning two potlines with 175 kA technology, they reached an annual production capacity of 110,000 tons by 2005. The second line, known as Hormozal, was launched in 2009 with 230 kA technology, adding a further 140,000 tons of planned capacity.

The facility includes reduction lines, a casting workshop, an anode production plant and essential energy and support units. After years of operational challenges under varying management structures, they are transferred to MAPNA Group in January 2019. At that time, less than a quarter of the pots were operational and several critical infrastructures remained incomplete.

Under MAPNA Group’s development program, they are now restoring full production capability. Key projects include a 546 MW combined-cycle power plant, expanded alumina storage, upgraded anode baking furnaces and new support facilities—strengthening its long-term position as a major primary aluminium manufacturer.
