Description
GEORG has set a new benchmark in aluminium plate machining with its advanced milling machine, delivering surface parallelism accuracy of ±0.05 mm. Compared to conventional machines, it doubles machining speed and integrates a high level of automation, resulting in a significant increase in production throughput.
The machine is designed to mill aluminium plates up to 3,000 mm wide with exceptional precision. While ±0.1 mm was previously considered the industry standard, GEORG’s new machine achieves ±0.05 mm surface parallelism. In a single pass, without separate roughing and finishing operations, it delivers a surface roughness of Ra 0.28 to 0.4 µm.
With milling speeds of up to 4,000 mm/min and feed rates of up to 60 m/min, the machine reduces machining time by more than 30 percent compared to conventional systems. This performance is supported by a powerful 200 kW milling unit drive.
Automation further improves efficiency. Aluminium plates are automatically fed into the machine, secured by a vacuum clamping table, turned over after the first side is milled and then held again for machining on the opposite side.
According to Dr. Wieland Klein, Head of GEORG’s machine tools division, early users have reported major reductions in machining and non-productive times, along with improved product quality. The machine’s preloaded, backlash-free guideways ensure high precision and long-term accuracy.
They also use laser triangulation to measure plate thickness across three tracks. The integrated GEORG maintenance system continuously monitors the entire machine, including tool wear. Machine data is transferred to the host computer, connecting the equipment with the plant-wide process network.
