Vedanta Resources plc's subsidiary Vedanta Limited has made an announcement yesterday, 20th April, 2017, that it faced pot outage at its aluminium smelter and the coal handling plant was affected in another incident of fire. Both the incidents occurred earlier this week at its two different sites.
{alcircleadd}The 500kt plant-1 smelter at Jharsuguda had a pot outage incident in Orissa where 228 pots out of the total 608 pots were damaged and taken out of production.
According to the statement, “The impacted pots will require to be repaired over the next few months, and put back into production. Timelines will be announced in due course.”

A fire broke out at the company’s Wholly Owned Subsidiary Talwandi Sabo Power Plant in Punjab state. The incident took place at the coal handling plant at the 1980 MW TSPL Power Plant. This has caused in a shutdown of all three units of the power plant for around 60 days.
The plant had achieved full ramp up during FY 2017, and had record availability of 85% in Q4 FY 2017.
“There were no injuries in either incident. The operational teams at the respective locations are working towards rectification, and safe and expeditious restart of the affected facilities,” as reported.
