The sole aluminium smelter in Argentina and one of the largest in South America, Aluar Aluminio Argentino has awarded Vestas, the energy industry’s global partner on sustainable energy solutions for the 81 MW Llano IV Wind Farm in the province of Chubut in Argentina.

However, it has been reported that Vestas is supplying and installing 18 V150-4.5 MW for the project.
In addition to the completion, Vestas will also deliver a 20-year service agreement for Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000). As a result of this agreement, energy production can be optimized while also providing certainty for the long-term business case.
It will provide renewable electricity for Aluar's aluminium smelter in Puerto Madryn, which is the largest in Argentina, and help Aluar comply with the requirements from Argentina's authorities that large electricity users obtain a percentage of their electricity from renewable sources.

Andrés Gismondi, the Senior Sales Director for Vestas LATAM South Cone said, “Vestas is pleased to grow our partnership with Aluar, one of the largest aluminium smelters in South America, and Vestas, has a strong commitment to Argentina’s energy transition.”
“This order materialises the third expansion of the El Llano wind complex that will soon have a total of 246 MW of sustainable energy coming from Vestas´s turbines to power Aluar’s aluminium smelting facilities in Puerto Madryn. This underlines how Vestas´ solutions can support energy-intensive industries to accelerate their energy transition by powering their operations with cost-efficient and sustainable energy”.
The turbines will be delivered in Q4 2022, and they will be commissioned in the third quarter of 2023.
