China has top alumina producers in the world. The country’s four provinces account for almost 70 percent of China's alumina production. China has 79.25 million tonnes of annual alumina capacity, as reported in the end of 2016. Aluminum Corporation of China Limited is the largest alumina producer in the world.

{alcircleadd}According to the data of National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), China’s alumina production increased significantly in May. Alumina production nationwide grew 19.6 per cent year-on-year to 6.44 million tonnes in May, and surged 20.8 per cent year-on-year to 30.9 million tonnes in the first five months of this year, as reported by Shanghai Metals Market.
According to the recent estimate, China exported an estimated 56387 tonnes of alumina in the first quarter of 2016-2017. In the second quarter, the country exported 49710 tonnes, a fall of 6677 tonnes of alumina. In third quarter, the estimated alumina export stood at 51086 tonnes and in quarter four, the amount stood at about 126090 tonnes. The country’s alumina export is estimated to rise drastically in the fourth quarter of 2016-2017.
The total export revenue stood at USD 43.81 million in the first quarter of 2016-2017. In second quarter, the export value stood at USD 36.26 million. In third and fourth quarter, the revenue stood at about USD 38.26 million and USD 67.82 million respectively. The total revenue from export is also estimated to increase significantly.

India is the one of the largest consumer of alumina exported by China. The country imported an estimated 57662 tonnes of alumina in 2016. Iran imported 45337 tonnes and Taiwan imported 20314 tonnes of alumina.
