According to the latest report from Aluminum Association imports of aluminium ingot, scrap and mill products into the U.S. and Canada (excluding cross-border trade) increased 12.5% YoY in April 2017 to 785 million pounds.

Total exports were also up in April 2017. Including scrap, which accounted for roughly 51% of reported aluminium exports, exports stood at 522 million pounds, up 8.8% YoY. Aluminium scrap exports increased 19.4% year-over-year in April. From January to April 2017, total imports were up 32.7 % to 1.5 million tonnes, while exports were up 5.1% to 9,11,720 tonnes.

New can stock scrap receipts stood at 56.5 million pounds during May 2017, down 6.4% from the May 2016 total of 60.4 million pounds. On a month on month comparison, receipts rose 5.9% over April 2017. YTD receipts through May 2017 stood at 273.9 million pounds, down 4.7% from the YTD total in 2016.
