Aluminium recovery from scrap up 8% YoY in March 2017

Total aluminium recovered from scrap in March 2017 was 324,000 Tonne, 8% more than the revised amount in February 2017 and 8% more than the recovered amount in March 2016, and 4% more than the amount in March 2015. Of this, 180,000 tonne of aluminium was recovered from new scrap. This registered a 6% increase from the revised amount in the preceding month as well as in March 2016. The amount is 3% more than the aluminium recovered in March 2015.

Recovery from old scrap was 145,000 tonne, 11% more than the revised amount in the preceding month, 9% more than the revised amount in March 2016. The amount records a 5% growth from the amount recovered in March 2015.

According to a recent update from Aluminum Association, new can stock (class) scrap receipts stood at 53.4 million pounds during April 2017, off 2.7% from the April 2016 total of 54.8 million pounds. On a month on month comparison, receipts decreased 4.9% from the March 2017 total of 56.1 million pounds. YTD receipts through April 2017 totalled 217.4 million pounds, down 4.3% from the 2016 YTD total of 227.1 million pounds.
