According to aluminium recycling statistics published by the U.S. Geological Survey and Department of Interior, the U.S. aluminium industry purchased an estimated 795 million pounds of aluminium scrap during October 2016. This is 8.1 per cent more than the October 2015 total of 735 million.
USGS estimates that the total aluminium and aluminium alloys recovered from scrap in October 2016 were 672 million pounds, up 8% from the amount recovered in October 2015.

According to the preliminary data, during the first ten months of 2016, recovery of aluminium from scrap totalled an estimated 6,665 million pounds, up 6.1 per cent from the same period total of 6,280 million pounds in 2015. U.S. exported about 2,489 million pounds of scrap (not included in the government’s consumption statistics) during the first ten months of 2016, down 14.1 per cent from the same period in 2015.
