The shipments of aluminium scrap by the USA, the world’s largest aluminium scrap exporter, increased during the first five months of 2017. According to the latest data released by the US Census Bureau and US International Trade Commission, the USA’s exports increased 13 per cent from 540,239 tonnes to 609,148 tonnes through the first five months of this year as compared to the same period last year.

{alcircleadd}In January- May 2017, the top five destinations of the USA aluminium scrap exports are China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Mexico and India. China imported the largest chunk of aluminium scrap from the USA.
According to the estimated data, the USA exported 300631 tonnes of aluminium scrap in Q1 2016-17 as compared to 286115 tonnes in the Q1 2017-18. The export volume stood at about 324008 tonnes in Q2 2016-17. The USA is expected to export of about 248811 tonnes of aluminium scrap in Q2 2017-18. The country expects a fall in exports of aluminium scrap in Q2 2017- 18.
The country’s revenue from exports of aluminium scrap stood at USD 373.31 million in Q1 2016-17 as compared to USD 394.48 million in Q1 2017-18. The value from export reached USD 420.96 million in Q2 2016-17. The country is estimated to register a fall in export revenues in Q2 2017-18 as compared to Q2 2016-17. The value is estimated to stand at USD 325.32 million.

During the first five months of 2017, the USA exported 322,415 tonnes of aluminium scrap to China, up 13.7 per cent when compared to the same period last year. Hong Kong imported 30,066 tonnes of aluminium scrap from the USA, up 83.8 per cent.
The USA exported 71,626 tonnes of aluminium scrap to South Korea, up 31.9 per cent year on year. Mexico and India purchased 59,122 tonnes and 26,546 tonnes of aluminium scrap respectively.
