Ontario, Canada based remelted aluminium billet manufacturer Matalco Inc. is poised to double output at its new plant in Lordstown, Ohio, reported S&P Global Platts. Production at the plant, which began operations in March, last year, is estimated to reach 200 million pounds by the end of 2017. The plant produced 90 million pounds of remelted aluminium billets in 2016.
The Matalco official who discussed the possibility with S&P Global Platts said, "The market is very strong ... We have several customers saying their order books were full.”
{alcircleadd}Matalco produces 6000 series extrusion-grade billets at its Ohio plant, which mainly cater to the automotive, building, and construction sector suppliers in the domestic market. The firm intends to produce some billets for the forging market as well, the official explained.
The Ohio plant happens to be Matalco’s single largest investment so far. It was built at an initial cost of US$100 million on a total land area of 225,000 sq. ft.

Matalco plans to take its total remelted aluminium billet production to 350 million pounds by the end of 2018. Along with the firm's two other production units in Ohio, the total billet production is estimated to reach 700 million pounds per annum over the period under forecast.
