The Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) is launching the 2017 edition of its Can Collection Campaign for the collection of aluminium cans for recycling purpose. This year, the overall target is to collect 28,000kg of aluminium cans.
{alcircleadd}The first event 2017 of Can Collection Campaign is scheduled to be on February 23. This year the campaign sub-projects include: Can Collection Day, which will be held on Thursday, February 23; and, Can Collection Drive on Saturday, October 28.The Can Collection Campaign will be held simultaneously across the seven Emirates.
EEG chairperson Habiba Al Marashi said, “The Can Collection Campaign aims to bring people from all segments of society together to fulfil their duties to the environment of this country by giving back to nature in the Year of Giving declared by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE”.
"The cumulative participation effort, commitment and cooperation of government agencies, hotels, private sectors, academic institutions, and families will help reach the goal of serving the environment and towards the success of attaining the ambitious target of 28,000 kg aluminium cans for 2017."

She further emphasized: “The campaign helps divert the tonnes of aluminium cans that will be collected through this specific campaign alone from the landfills and work towards achieving the overall objective of zero waste to landfills.”
The Can Collection Campaign was first launched in September 1997 by the EEG to create awareness of the importance of recycling the aluminium cans and has collected 278,672kg of aluminium cans.
