UPM Raflatac VANISH film enables aluminium beverage can recycling without affecting quality

Aluminium beverage cans labelled with UPM Raflatac's VANISHTM film is fit for recycling, confirmed Novelis. The world's largest recycler of aluminium cans said the thin 23-micron VANISHTM label is ‘sufficiently light’ in order not to affect the quality of the secondary aluminium produced through recycling.

UPM Raflatac's ultra-thin VANISHTM PET film allows for self-adhesive labelling on aluminium beverage cans, recycling of the used aluminium cans, and most importantly, the opportunity for global beverage brands to market their offerings in small batches cost-effectively. All these three functions were previously thought as inviable until UPM Raflatac came up with VANISHTM.

Finland’s Saimaan Juomatehdas brewery is the first company in Europe to adopt VANISHTM by launching a craft beer in labelled aluminium cans. The company has integrated its offerings into a refundable deposit system for aluminium beverage can recycling, renowned all over the world as the most effective system. Refundable and returnable deposit cans comprise the most recycled container category in the region with a recycling rate as high as 95 per cent.

VANISHTM brings with it all the aesthetics and visual presentation related benefits of self-adhesive label printing technology to aluminium-canned beverages.
