China finally expressed its willingness to participate in a collaborative approach to tackle the problems galore in the aluminium market. Referring to the findings of a probe by the U.S., China Ministry of Commerce called for an un-biased “global” approach to deal with the situation.
At a press conference held in Beijing on Thursday, July 27, Ministry of Commerce spokesman Gao Feng claimed that the USTC report had not accused the Chinese government of “sponsoring” the development of aluminium industry in the country. Any suggestion made in regard to that was untrue.
{alcircleadd}The U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) published a report in June this year that examines China aluminium market developments from 2011 through 2015. The report said that China government facilitated or rather encouraged aluminium production within the country during this period by lowering tariffs on raw material import and a variety of other programmes which provided direct support to aluminium smelters.
Ever since Donald Trump assumed his office in the White House he has been after China for lowering the supply of aluminium in the global markets. He has threatened China time again to impose anti-dumping tariffs on its aluminium exports. In April this year, he ordered a probe into the U.S. aluminium and steel imports.

Gao Feng said that anything his government did to foster the growth of China aluminium industry was duty of the State - to facilitate core sector development, and that the USITC report had attributed China aluminium sector's rapid growth to "constant efforts and continuous technological innovation."
Gao confirmed that China was willing to "join hands" with all aluminium producers across the world, including those based in the U.S., to promote the development of a "healthy and stable" industry, Reuters reported.
