Skoda has declared the launch of its first electric SUV (e-SUV), Enyaq iV, exclusively in New Zealand by 2023. The Enyaq is fully composed of green raw materials, like 13kg of recycled plastic, 40 per cent of recycled steel and 60 per cent of recycled aluminium.

This will fall under the genre of three new EVs that Skoda is about to develop in the upcoming four years, boosting the company’s strategy of transforming 70 per cent of its European sales to electric vehicles.
The general manager of Skoda NZ, Rodney Gillard, exclaimed with pride that Enyaq will commence a “decade of transformation.”
“With the launch of Enyaq in 2023, we are aligning Skoda with our customers’ evolving needs and expectations – offering exceptional styling and an enhanced user experience. We know that Kiwi drivers, who are adventurers like us and demand smart technologies and functionality when it comes to their vehicles, will absolutely love the new Enyaq. It has all the comfort, space, and high specs our customers have come to expect, coupled with the benefits that come with an electric vehicle,” Gillard added.
The sustainable approach to building the vehicle is worth appreciating because plastic, steel and aluminium can all be tactically recycled for new end-user products. Unlike plastic, the recycling of aluminium emits less carbon than the production of primary aluminium. Moreover, the non-ferrous metal can be infinitely recycled without losing its original properties, inducing a steady circular economy.
Regional characteristics of the car and its pricing will be determined by February 2023, and the Enyac will be released in both SUV and SUV-coupe variations.
The choice for battery installation hovers around 55kWh, 62kWh and 82kWh. With the 55kWh battery, the WLTP-rated reach is 340km; for 62kWh, it is 390kWh, and for 82kWh, the range is 510km.
On the 25th of February, dedicated events will be conducted around the country where Skoda dealers will consecutively launch the Enyaq in their respective areas, holding pre-production E-SUVs onsite. Customers can enjoy test drives after the date of the launch.
Skoda wishes to evolve into a net-zero company by 2030 on an international scale with a massive investment of US$9.2 billion to enhance its e-mobility drive.
