Norway based Sapa AS has announced signing of an agreement with Sweeden's Chargestorm whereby the downstream aluminium manufacturer and technology leader provides aluminium profiles for wall-mounted chargers (for electric vehicles) made by the latter. The product is meant to capitalize on the now booming electric vehicle market in Europe.
According to a recent survey conducted by PwC, the European electric vehicle market is slated to grow at 422% by the year 2021. All kinds of electric vehicles have to depend on charging stations- an emerging need Chargestorm intends to cater to. In an effort to remain relevant yet sustainable, Chargestorm decided to zero in on fully-recyclable aluminium instead of plastic or stainless steel.
“As a company focusing on clean energy, it seems only natural that we should use a material that embodies our values. Aluminium is like electricity, clean, renewable and sustainable,” said Patrik Lindergren, CEO of Chargestorm. “We are extremely happy to be collaborating with Sapa on developing our chargers to be greener than ever.”
“The combination of an attractive metal finish in anodized aluminium and a high degree of customization was the main reason why Chargestorm chose Sapa and its aluminium profile,” Lindergren added.

Chargestorm is a member of Cleantech and Power Circle, two leading Swedish organizations working to promote the use of electricity derived from sustainable sources. Founded in 2009, the company is into producing charging stations for both commercial and private electric vehicles.
Sapa, the world's largest aluminium extrusion-based solutions company will be supplying aluminium profiles for the new-age charger. “Fifty percent of all the aluminium we use in our production comes from recycled materials from our own re-melters, and this makes aluminium a great material of choice for a green manufacturer like Chargestorm,” said Sapa Profiles AB sales director Stefan Bergstrom.
