Primary aluminium production records substantial M-o-M growth across Europe during May 2023

According to the International Aluminium Institute, primary aluminium production in Russia & Eastern Europe stood at 340,000 tonnes during May 2023 compared to 329,000 tonnes in April. Thus, on a month-on-month calculation, Russia & Eastern Europe’s primary aluminium output recorded an increase of 11,000 tonnes or 3.34 per cent, following a sequential fall of 4.08 per cent or 14,000 tonnes in April from 343,000 tonnes.

On a year-on-year basis, primary aluminium production in Russia & Eastern Europe during May’23 stood at 5,000 tonnes or 1.45 per cent lower than 345,000 tonnes.

Daily average output came in at 11,000 tonnes, restrained month-on-month despite an increase in monthly production and 100 tonnes down Y-o-Y.

During January-May, Russia & Eastern Europe’s combined output of primary aluminium amounted to 1.666 million tonnes – 1.48 per cent less than 1.691 million tonnes a year ago.

Primary aluminium production in Western & Central Europe was 229,000 tonnes during May 2023, up by 5,000 tonnes or 2.32 per cent from 224,000 tonnes in April. The increase in output during May followed a downfall of 6,000 tonnes or 2.61 per cent in the previous month.

On a year-on-year calculation, Western & Central Europe’s primary aluminium output in May’23 edged a sharp decrease of 21,000 tonnes or 8.4 per cent from 250,000 tonnes, found IAI.

Daily average primary aluminium production of Western & Central Europe in May was recorded at 7,400 tonnes, down by 100 tonnes M-o-M and by 700 tonnes Y-o-Y.

From January to May 2023, Western & Central Europe churned out 1.122 million tonnes of primary aluminium – 9.44 per cent less than 1.239 million tonnes during the corresponding period of the previous year.
