Late last month, China’s metal recycling body unveiled the second batch of 44 certified domestic importers and a list of over two dozens of foreign companies who would be permitted to export aluminium and copper scrap to the country.

China had prohibited imports of solid waste from 2021 but permitted high-grade metals scrap that met new standards reclassified as recycling resources.
The foreign aluminium and copper scrap suppliers, who received export permission, include the US companies Omnisource LLC and Golden Bridge International Group as well as suppliers from Italy, Britain, Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong and other countries, according to the recycling branch of the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association.
44 certified domestic importers are from 10 provinces, including units of Tongling Nonferrous Metals Group Co Ltd and Ningbo Jintian Copper Group Co Ltd.
In December 2020, China had published a list of 9 overseas suppliers and 16 importers. In the entire year of 2020, China imported 943,789 tonnes of copper scrap and 824,570 tonnes of aluminium scrap.
