Aluminium foil containers sales grow globally in 2018 with end-users shift to sustainable packaging: FMI

EDITED BY : 2MINS READ

According to the latest research report by FMI, over 1 million tonnes of aluminium containers were sold globally in 2018. This sales volume is likely to escalate further by 4 per cent year-on-year in 2019, learned the report. Shifting consumer patterns towards effective and sustainable formats could be a factor that stimulated the sales of aluminium foil containers. Unwavering demand from multiple sectors, including foodservice, retail & supermarket, and others further triggered the demand for the containers, found the report.

Aluminium foil containers continue to gain immense favour, owing to their superior barrier properties. According to FMI’s analysis, the weight of aluminium is another key aspect enhancing the viability of aluminium foil containers across diverse end-use applications. Moreover, they are scalable and foldable with immense scope for accommodating brand logos and other marketing-oriented prints.

“Alongside increasing proclivity for recycling, end-user industries are gearing up to turn this trend into a competitive advantage. Consumer demand for environmentally-responsible products has become highly evident than ever, which is being considered by end-users to enhance their bottom lines via appropriate offerings. Aluminum foil containers, being 100% recyclable, are gaining momentum in various shapes and sizes as per specific end-user requirements”, says the FMI report.

The current use of aluminium foil containers in the foodservice sector is forecast to grow further, driven by increasing consumer reliance on food ordering and on-the-go consumption.

The report also shows that end-users continue to prefer non-compartmental aluminium foil containers over compartmental ones, with global sales estimated in excess of 1 million tonnes in 2019.

Besides food packers/processors, aluminium foil containers are gaining notable advantages in the retail and supermarkets space as well.

Sensing this end-user shift, manufacturers are offering foil containers that facilitate rapid heating and obtaining quality certifications related to processing techniques and product characteristics. As per FMI’s analysis, aluminium foil container manufacturers are focusing on three pillars of long-term market sustenance, such as consumer convenience by developing hygienic and easy-handle products at competitive costs, marketing and design by exploring branding possibilities across popular social media channels, and product innovation by producing distinguishable and efficient products.
