
The Chief Executive Officer of Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba), Ali Al Baqali rolled out the company’s approved Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) Roadmap by the Board of Directors, to underline the company’s strong commitment to Bahrain’s, an island country in Western Asia towards the objective of ‘Net Zero Emissions by 2060’ under the leadership of HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Bahrain as well as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

On 27th April 2022, the first aluminium smelter in the Middle East region, Alba’s CEO held a presentation on the company’s ESG Roadmap in a hybrid format -- both in-person and via the virtual platform. It was attended by Company’s Executives, Directors, and Management team as well as numerous employees and contractors’ workers. The ESG Roadmap will be further streamed to all departments through a plant-wide campaign.
Alba’s ESG Roadmap which is developed in association with a well-known ESG consulting firm featured six strategic priorities over the years: (1) Decarbonisation, (2) Green Energy & Aluminium, (3) Circular Economy & Secondary Aluminium, (4) Employee Welfare, (5) Collaboration & Partnership and (6) Transparency, Communications & Due Diligence.

While speaking on this occasion, Alba’s CEO Ali Al Baqali said: “As the world’s largest aluminium smelter ex-China, we have the responsibility to make the Right Choice Today for a Better Tomorrow.”
“Alba’s ESG Roadmap is an all-inclusive approach that embeds our ambitious targets to address the challenges that are and will affect us. The six priority areas outlined in the Roadmap will accelerate our pace to further sustainable value for our people and society.”
However, led by the CEO, a special ESG Taskforce Committee has also been constituted to evaluate the ESG-linked initiatives for each of the 6 priorities and keep the track of the company’s achievements.
