The YNTC is the first-of-its-kind initiative by the Japan-India Institute for Manufacturing (JIM) and involves collaboration between the government of Japan, government of India, and Japanese companies to give further impetus to the 'Make in India' and 'Skill India' programmes.

Japan and India jointly aim to train as many as 30,000 Japanese standard shopfloor engineers over the next 10 years, and for that has introduced Japanese Endowed Courses (JEC) at India’s existing engineering colleges. All these courses focus on aluminium casting and welding, steel machining, parts control, paint, and assembly among other manufacturing methods.
