The Global Aluminium Foil Roller Initiative (GLAFRI) has announced the launch of The Robert V Neher Award, an award that would recognize the best innovative packaging and technical applications in the field of aluminium foil and closures through an academic competition.
{alcircleadd}The Award, which is named after the inventor of the aluminium foil rolling process, would allow students and academia from packaging, food and technical universities worldwide to submit entries online.
Explaining the objective of the award, Director General of GLAFRI, Stefan Glimmsaid, “Every sector needs its innovators, and the aluminium foil and closure sector, through GLAFRI, has a great responsibility to encourage and develop talent for the future wellbeing of our industry.”
“The Award is a great opportunity to identify these future influencers and makes certain their talents are rewarded. Also it sends a strong message that the aluminium sector is a great place to seek a worthwhile career,” he continued.

The entry is open to any bachelor, master, research work or doctoral thesis that addresses the technical, scientific or sustainable aspects of aluminium foil processing, and application. The entries must contain an abstract, executive summary and the scientific work in the form of a white paper or dissertation. The work should be submitted in English and in PDF format within the prescribed word limit addressing the aluminium foil or closures applications. The announcement confirms that while aluminium foil does not have to be the main focus of the scientific work, there should be relevant reference to it.
The winner would be presented with a cheque for EUR 10,000 during the Robert V. Neher Award Ceremony, to be held at the Aluminium exhibition in Düsseldorf in October 2018, organised by Reed Exhibitions, who is also a co-sponsor of the initiative.
