    The Lavit Capsule, developed jointly by Lavit and Alupak has won the 2016 Alufoil Trophy award for excellence in Marketing & Design. The Alufoil Trophy is organized each year by EAFA and is the aluminum foil sector’s annual premier awards competition. The Alufoil Trophy recognizes manufacturers and brands that meet environmental and sustainability targets without losing any degree of performance or quality in addition to the technical innovations, to solve complex problems or meet difficult conditions.

    The Lavit capsule is a revolutionary single serve beverage container containing powder beverage concentrate. When the capsule is inserted into a Lavit beverage system, the user can craft an individual still or sparkling cold beverage with the touch of a button. The capsule also features Lavit’s proprietary and radically new crack and peel technology that prevents cross contamination and delivers a delicious cold beverage every time.

    Head Alufoil judge Louis Lindenberg, global sustainable packaging director at Unilever said, “This is an attractive product with the potential to expand the market for this type of ‘on-demand’ cold beverage into office or foodservice areas. The capsule projects a high quality image and reflects current lifestyle trends for capsule beverage options with a wide variety of tastes.”

    EAFA executive director Guido Aufdemkamp adds, “The overall concept really convinced the jury. From the convenience and environmental benefits, to the design, the Lavit capsule combines form and functionality.”

    Lavit’s objectives for the single serve beverage capsule design and development were threefold: first, it had to be 100 per cent truly and easily recyclable. The capsule weighs about 2 grams, just 1/7th the aluminium of an average 12oz beverage can.
