Destination India for USGBC's Greenbuild International Conference and Expo 2017

The ideators of the LEED green building rating system - the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) - have announced this year's Greenbuild- the world's biggest conference and expo on greenbuilding industry trends will be held in Mumbai, India, on November 2-4.

Last year, the Aluminum Association released Aluminum in Green Buildings – A Guide to Environmental Declarations - at the conference in Los Angeles. While the Guide still remains the preferred reference point for aluminium stakeholders for understanding the appropriate process of conducting environmental assessments for aluminium building products, this year's Greenbuild stands to promote India and the other Asian countries as the next biggest growth engine of the greenbuilding movement.

The Greenbuild International Conference and Expo is partnering with the ABEC Exhibitions & Conferences Ltd. (ABEC) this time, and promises to bring together the Indian and global industry leaders and experts who are working towards making sustainable building the mainstream way of developing infrastructure.

"We are at the threshold for exponential growth in the building materials and construction sector in India, and the green building movement will be of utmost significance going forward. We are extremely pleased that Greenbuild India 2017 will be launched alongside ACETECH in Mumbai making it the holistic destination for the building materials and construction sector in the country," said Mr. Sumit Gandhi, managing director, ABEC.

"Greenbuild is the place where the passion of the green building movement comes alive," said Mahesh Ramanujam, president & CEO, U.S. Green Building Council and Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI) "India is the third largest market for LEED outside the U.S., and USGBC has committed to bringing its resources to advance more rapid adoption of green building practices in the country. In fact, green building is projected to grow 20 percent in India by 2018, which makes my mother country the perfect location to hold the Greenbuild conference."

The Greenbuild conference has become a niche event and expanded exponentially all across the world. In addition to the 2017 India Greenbuild, the conference will also take place in Boston, China and Brazil this year.

The organizers of the Greenbuild 2017 announced that the call for proposals for the event is now open. GBCI, the international certification body for all LEED projects, which was incorporated in India last year, will play a significant role in the conference. It has in place a wide array of new rating systems designed to advance sustainability in the built environment.
