Afrox is upgrading its technologies to increase productivity and limit emissions in the aluminium processing. Afrox is providing technical competence and process knowledge to melting, dross handling, refining, and extrusion and annealing applications through its parent company The Linde Group.
Afrox provides a wide range of xyfuel burners and technologies designed by Linde Group that suits different processes and requirements for aluminium melting in casting plants. These solutions have been proven to increase melting rates by about 100% reducing fuel consumption by up to 50% and cutting gas emissions by up to 90%.

Melting or remelting is a key step in aluminium processing, both in primary and secondary casting and in new and existing furnaces. However, it is extremely energy intensive process and can impact both the productivity and total cost of production.
Afrox, the leading gases company in Africa can streamline this process through its oxyfuel combustion technologies.
Simphiwe Molefe, Applications Specialist for Bulk Markets at Afrox, explained, “By increasing the amount of O2 in the melting process, you reduce the amount of inert nitrogen (N2) in the combustion reaction. This has several advantages which include increased thermal efficiency, reduced fuel consumption, improved control over the process and less fuel emissions.”

Its AIROX burner solution facilitates flexible and economic melting, allowing furnace operators to switch between oxygen (O2) and O2-enriched gases easily during the melting process for greater melting rates and lower emissions. Similarly, its WASTOX technology can melt low-grade scrap and turn unwanted contaminants into fuel. The solution uses O2 lances to combust emissions within furnaces.
