As reported in the Aluminum Association’s “Index of Net New Orders of Aluminum Mill Products” for March increased 13.6% over February 2017.

{alcircleadd}Month on month, orders for flat roll products (sheet, plate, can stock and foil) were up 14.7%, while orders for extruded products increased 13.0% and orders for redraw rod were off 2.2%. Total orders were up 4% YOY. On average, orders recorded by domestic producers through the first quarter 2017 were up 3.3% over the same period of 2016.
Aluminum imports of ingot, scrap and mill products into the U.S. and Canada (excluding cross-border trade) stood at 379500 tonnes in February 2017, up 50.2% over the February 2016 total of 252500 tonnes.

Total aluminium exports in February including scrap, which accounted for roughly 53.2 % of it totalled 224000 tonnes, down 7.7 % from February 2016. Excluding scrap, exports totalled 105000 tonnes, down 18.4 % from last year. Exports of scrap increased 4.2 % YOY. Through the first two months of 2017, imports were up 49.6 % to 810000 tonnes, while exports were slightly up to 471500 tonnes.
