According to data provided by the Aluminum Association and the Aluminium Association of Canada, total aluminium can stock shipments by the domestic producers reached 315.3 million pounds during December 2016, down 8.8 per cent from 345.5 million pounds as recorded in the same period previous year. Month-on-month shipments declined 8.3 per cent from the November 2016 total of 343.6 million pounds. Total aluminium can stock shipments for 2016 was recorded at 4,154.9 million pounds, off six-tenths of one per cent from 4,178.3 million pounds as estimated in 2015.
The U.S. and Canada's producer shipments of can stock to the domestic markets were down 6.0 per cent from that in December 2015, to 272.6 million pounds. Exports for the same period also shrank 23.2 per cent to 42.7 million pounds.
Estimated net shipments of aluminium sheet and plate by the U.S. and Canadian producers totalled 634.0 million pounds during December 2016, down 1.9 per cent from the December 2015 total of 646.4 million pounds. In comparison to the previous month, aluminium sheet and plate shipments decreased 7.0 per cent from the November 2016 revised total of 681.7 million pounds. Preliminary shipments for 2016 totalled 8,390.5 million pounds, up seven-tenths of one per cent over the 2015 total of 8,335.0 million pounds.
The total can stock shipments totalled 315.3 million pounds during December 2016, down 8.8 per cent from the December 2015 total of 345.5 million pounds, while shipments of non-heat treatable sheet (excluding can stock) rose 2.2 per cent to 196.6 million pounds and shipments of all other sheet and plate increased 12.5 per cent to 122.2 million pounds.

As per data, estimated shipments of aluminium foil by the U.S. and Canadian producers totalled 61.2 million pounds during December 2016, up 10.4 per cent over 55.4 million pounds as recorded in December 2015.
