The METEF 2017 exhibition will devote great attention to the aluminium and foundry production chain for both light alloys and innovative materials. Consequently, METEF 2017 will focus on the automotive sector, which plays a towing role for the all the industrial activities. Sustainable lightweight can only be achieved by innovating materials, processes, elaboration techniques and material-oriented designing.
{alcircleadd}The development of light alloy castings in the automotive sector is the leading issue of METEF 2017, this year’s event to understand where the future of materials is heading to. About 500 aluminium cast alloy castings foundries are there in Italy (the total of ferrous and non-ferrous foundries in Italy is around 1100).
The total consumption of aluminium in Italy in 2016 was 2,040,000 tonnes, an increase of 7.5% over the previous year, which is second in Europe after Germany.
The consumption of non-alloyed raw aluminium increased by 11.8%, the consumption of alloys in semi-fabricated shapes like rolling plates and extruded billets rose 9.1%, while demand for alloys in foundry blades showed a growth of 3.3%.
Foundry industry in Italy is growing rapidly in 7 major plants, with the current production of 710,000 tons. Foundry castings, produced in around 500 plants, recorded a total increase of 2.4%, reaching 698,000 tonnes compared to 682,000 tonnes in 2015, more than 2/3 as pre-pressed and the rest cast in shell and sand casting.

All major global producers of casting machines will be present at the exhibition. They will showcase the latest die-casting technology innovations with integrated peripheral devices to ensure maximum production competitiveness.
Wednesday 21st will be the official opening of Metef 2017 in Piazza Italia. Stay tuned to AlCircle Metef Direct Live for more updates.
