Odisha- India's mineral-rich state in the east coast stands a great chance to become the country's most sought-after manufacturing hub, said Dr. Tapan Kumar Chand, CMD of the State-run National Aluminium Company Limited (Nalco).
Dr. Chand was attending the Business Standard Odisha Round Table – 2016 at Bhubaneswar on 7th December 2016. While participating in the panel discussion on ‘Attracting investment – Challenges and Opportunities’ in the state, he said, Odisha has immense potential in its mining and mineral base, the entire value chain mining, mineral, metal, downstream – upstream, manufacturing – but what it lags is the absence of proper marketing initiatives. Marketing needs to be maximized in/and for the state to have more MSMEs and more employment generating avenues.
“While there are around 3,000 applications of aluminium in use at the international level, in India, we are limited to only 300 usages. Development of ancillary industries can help address this issue, enhancing the use of aluminium in different sectors,” Dr. Chand said.
“While the State is geared up to promote ancillary industries, Nalco is setting up an Aluminium Park in Angul, in collaboration with IDCO to support downstream and upstream industries,” Dr. Chand informed. “Nalco has also initiated an industry-institution synergy programme to encourage budding entrepreneurs,” he added.
