Greece is the leading producer of bauxite in the European Union. The country is one of the key suppliers of bauxite in the global market. Aluminium of Greece is the foremost aluminium producing company in Greece which owns Delphi-Distomon mining company. The company operates two large bauxite deposits at Boeotia and Phocis on the north coast of the Gulf of Corinth with total bauxite processing capacity of 200,000 tonnes in a year.

On a quarterly basis, Greece exported an estimated 105484 tonnes of bauxite in the first quarter of 2016-2017. In the second quarter, the country exported 97692 tonnes, a fall of 7792 tonnes of bauxite. The third quarter again witnessed a fall in the export of bauxite. In third quarter, the estimated bauxite export stood at 77434 tonnes and in quarter four, the amount stood at about 84812 tonnes.
The total export revenue stood at USD 7.49 million in the first quarter of 2016-2017. In second quarter, the export value stood at USD 6.72 million. In third and fourth quarter, the revenue stood at about USD 6.93 million and USD million 9.27 respectively.

In 2016, Greece exported an estimated 256998 tonnes of bauxite to France followed by USA 39354 tonnes and Croatia 28554 tonnes.
