EGA’S new China office to develop sales opportunities for bauxite
UAE-based Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) today said in a statement that the company opened its first office in Shanghai, China. The new office will “deepen commercial ties” by developing sales opportunities for bauxite from EGA’s under-construction bauxite mine in Guinea. EGA’s bauxite mine is estimated to produce 12 million tonnes of bauxite per annum.
The company’s first office in Shanghai will operate by EGA’s wholly-owned Chinese subsidiary. The office will source raw materials and other supplies in China. EGA has secured over $500m of supplies from China over the past two years.
Abdulla Kalban, EGA’s managing director and CEO, said: “China is already a substantial source of raw materials and supplies for EGA, and we expect the importance of China for our business to grow in the coming years.”
The global demand for bauxite in China will increase significantly over the next decade, according to experts. Guinea has around seven billion tonnes of bauxite resources. EGA’s concession contains more than one billion tonnes of bauxite.Get fresh Aluminium data and insights
