Australian resource development company Metallica Minerals Limited has announced the successful maiden shipment of bauxite using a barge loading and transhipping facility at Hey Point near Weipa.
Metallica plans to use the same infrastructure on the west coast of Queensland's Cape York for delivering a readymade logistics solution for its bauxite output planned in first half of 2017. The company's new bauxite mining operation- the Urquhart bauxite project will be churning out bauxite for export early next year.
Currently, Metallica has two project interests- the Cape York Heavy Mineral Sand and Bauxite Project, located on the west coast of Queensland’s Cape York and Esmeralda Graphite Project, located near Croydon in north Queensland. The Bauxite Project is held 50 per cent by Metallica Minerals’ wholly owned subsidiary, Oresome Australia Pty Ltd, and 50 per cent by a private Chinese investor, Ozore Pty Ltd.

The maiden voyage of bauxite is a milestone that is being celebrated by the Austrlaian minerals company. Metallica Minerals CEO Simon Slesarewich said Urquhart bauxite project, on completition, will have a capacity to export 1.6 million tonnes of bauxite annually.
