Brazil currently ranks second position as a net exporter of alumina worldwide. The country exported estimated 8.78 million tonnes of alumina in 2016, up from 8.47 million tonnes in 2015. A substantial portion of country’s alumina is shipped to Canada. Albras, the second-largest aluminium metal plant in Brazil also intakes Brazilian alumina.

{alcircleadd}Hydro Alunorte is the world's largest alumina refinery in Brazil with a total capacity of over six million tons of alumina. ALUMAR is another alumina refinery in one of the largest alumina and primary aluminium production complexes in the world owned by Alcoa, RioTinto, and South 32.
The quarterly data suggests that Brazil exported an estimated 2035894 tonnes of alumina in Q1 2016-17. In Q2, the volume increased to 2205176 tonnes. In the last two quarter the country witnessed a slight fall in alumina export. The country exported 2126357 tons and 2112536 tons of alumina in the Q3 and Q4 respectively.
The country’s export value stood at 483.03 USD million in the Q1 2016-17. In Q2, the total value stood at 523.977 USD million. The export value stood at 529.94 USD million and 633.32 USD million in Q3 and Q4.
Canada, Norway, UAE and Argentina are the top importers of alumina from Brazil.
